One Mann’s Movies list of the Golden Globe nominations for 2026.
So, it’s getting near to that time of year again as we enter the gravy train of nominations and awards. First up, as always, are The Golden Globe Nominations 2026… the somewhat dodgy uncle of the family, but still setting a stake in the ground for the more influential BAFTAs, SAGs and Oscars to follow.
Here are the nominations for the film awards (and following that, for completeness, the TV awards). The Golden Globes awards show, hosted by comedian Nikki Glaser, will take place on Sunday, January 11, 2026 (US time).
I have provided my links to my reviews of the films where I have seen them (of which I’m pleased to say, thanks to the LFF, I have pretty good coverage all ready this year). Some of these have yet to appear in the UK though and were not at the LFF.
The Film Categories
Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy
- Blue Moon
- Bugonia
- Marty Supreme
- No Other Choice
- Nouvelle Vague
- One Battle After Another
An interesting selection. Delighted to see Blue Moon, Bugonia and No Other Choice on the list: all films I rated 4.5*s and above. I wasn’t as fanatical about One Battle After Another (4*s) but it is still a worthy addition.
Best Motion Picture, Drama
- Frankenstein
- Hamnet
- It Was Just an Accident
- The Secret Agent
- Sentimental Value
- Sinners
A lot of people will be delighted to see the indie hit Sinners on this list. And two smaller foreign films: It Was Just an Accident and The Secret Agent making the list is a pleasant surprise. Hamnet would be my choice from this list: its the one I expect to clean up at the Oscars.
Best Director – Motion Picture
- Ryan Coogler, Sinners
- Paul Thomas Anderson, One Battle After Another
- Guillermo del Toro, Frankenstein
- Jafar Panahi, It Was Just an Accident
- Joachim Trier, Sentimental Value
- Chloe Zhao, Hamnet
A really solid list and can’t argue. Panahi might get this for the political angle. Zhao might NOT get it for one very poor choice that I pointed out in my review!
Best Male Actor – Motion Picture, Musical/Comedy
- Timothee Chalomet, Marty Supreme
- George Clooney, Jay Kelly
- Leonardo DiCaprio, One Battle After Another
- Ethan Hawke, Blue Moon
- Lee Byung-hun, No Other Choice
- Jesse Plemons, Bugonia
Wow – an indicator for how tough these Actor categories will be this year. For me, it would be between Hawke for Blue Moon and Plemons for Bugonia, with my money being on Plemons to win.
Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama
- Dwayne Johnson, The Smashing Machine
- Jeremy Allen White, Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere
- Joel Edgerton, Train Dreams
- Michael B Jordan, Sinners
- Oscar Isaac, Frankenstein
- Wagner Moura, The Secret Agent
I mean, he’s been angling for it, but I really don’t think Dwayne Johnson should be on this list for smashing down cardboard doors! As a left field choice, I might go for Wagner Moura for this one.
Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy
- Amanda Seyfried, The Testament of Ann Lee
- Chase Infiniti, One Battle After Another
- Cynthia Erivo, Wicked: For Good
- Emma Stone, Bugonia
- Kate Hudson, Song Sung Blue
- Rose Byrne, If I Had Legs I’d Kick You
I think Chase Infiniti is poorly served by being in this Best Female Acting category rather than Supporting. But I’m a bit short sighted in this category to comment much at the moment. Although it might be “predictable”, Emma Stone was phenomenal (again!) in “Bugonia”.
Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama
- Eva Victor, Sorry Baby
- Jennifer Lawrence, Die My Love
- Jessie Buckley, Hamnet
- Julia Roberts, After The Hunt
- Renate Reinsve, Sentimental Value
- Tessa Thompson, Hedda
I said it in my review, but surely Jessie Buckley has this award sewn on for “Hamnet”.
Best Supporting Male Actor in a Motion Picture
- Benicio del Toro, One Battle After Another
- Jacob Elordi, Frankenstein
- Paul Mescal, Hamnet
- Sean Penn, One Battle After Another
- Adam Sandler, Jay Kelly
- Stellan Skarsgard, Sentimental Value
Another interesting category. Skarsgard is supposed to be phenomenal. But from what I’ve seen, I think I would need to give it to Sean Penn.
Best Supporting Female Actor in a Motion Picture
- Emily Blunt, The Smashing Machine
- Elle Fanning, Sentimental Value
- Ariana Grande, Wicked: For Good
- Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas, Sentimental Value
- Amy Madigan, Weapons
- Teyana Taylor, One Battle After Another
Emily Blunt? Sorry, but “no”. Amy Madigan for “Weapons” is a fascinating addition… but again, I’m short sighted at the moment on this category.
Best Screenplay – Motion Picture
- Chloe Zhao, Maggie O’Farrell – Hamnet
- Jafar Panahi – It Was Just an Accident
- Joachim Trier, Eskil Vogt – Sentimental Value
- Paul Thomas Anderson – One Battle After Another
- Ronald Bronstein, Josh Safdie – Marty Supreme
- Ryan Coogler – Sinners
Zhao for Hamnet would be my choice (although there is always THAT MOMENT to drag it down).
Best Motion Picture – Animated
- Arco
- Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Infinity Castle
- Elio
- KPop Demon Hunters
- Little Amelie or the Character of the Rain
- Zootopia 2
Given the impact this year, surely this should go so KPop Demon Hunters. But who knows?
Best Motion Picture – Non-English Language
- It Was Just an Accident
- No Other Choice
- Sentimental Value
- Sirat
- The Secret Agent
- The Voice of Hind Rajab
Delighted to see Sirat on this list…. a must see film for one of the MOST SHOCKING twists of the year! And “No Other Choice was terrific. But I suspect this might go to “Sentimental Value”, but I have still to see it.
Best Original Score – Motion Picture
- Alexandre Desplat, Frankenstein
- Hans Zimmer, F1
- Jonny Greenwood, One Battle After Another
- Kangding Ray, Sirat
- Ludwig Göransson, Sinners
- Max Richter, Hamnet
No idea. Perhaps Greenwood for “One Battle…” even though I personally found the score overly intrusive.
Best Original Song – Motion Picture
- “Dream as One,” Miley Cyrus, Andrew Wyatt, Mark Ronson, Simon Franglen, Avatar: Fire and Ash
- “Golden,” Joong Gyu Kwak, Yu Han Lee, Hee Dong Nam, Jeong Hoon Seo, Park Hong Jun, Kim Eun-jae (EJAE), Mark Sonnenblick, KPop Demon Hunters
- “I Lied to You,” Raphael Saadiq, Ludwig Göransson, Sinners
- “No Place Like Home,” Stephen Schwartz, Wicked: For Good
- “The Girl in the Bubble,” Stephen Schwartz, Wicked: For Good
- “Train Dreams,” Nick Cave, Bryce Dessner, Train Dreams
Cinematic and Box Office Achievement
- Avatar: Fire and Ash
- F1
- KPop Demon Hunters
- Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning
- Sinners
- Weapons
- Wicked: For Good
- Zootopia 2
I’ve no idea how this category is judged. But in terms of “impact”, KPop has been an utter phenomenon amongst our younger humans this year.
